Well, this might not be much compared to other games out there haha. But at least it motives me to keep working on the game, hopefully it’ll be at a ‘presentable’ state soon, definitely by version 1.0. I’m working on getting version 0.6 Beta out, hopefully I would have replaced lots of the ‘restricted media’ and added some more to it. I will also work on updating the ‘community’, adding new tutorials on things. I have already written an updated tutorial on getting GtkRadiant (The popular map editor) to work with The Instagib Project, one friend tried it and he said it worked, though he hasn’t actually made and compiled a map, I’ll have to try it myself, and I’ll probably even do a screencast of it.
I will also try to learn some more modeling in Blender, and will hopefully make some models using various MD3 Export scripts which I have found, I’ll also write a tutorial on this (Not modeling itself, but using the export scripts) soon. I will also be trying to make some textures, I’ll mostly be using GIMP most likely even though I don’t know how to use it, but because it’s faster to load and does what I need it to do, plus it supports millions of formats. I’ll also replace most of the sounds in the game with the sounds in Open Arena, and many other things. Hopefully I can work out a new User Interface/HUD.
Anyways, this all will take time, and since I’m on my own it’ll be an on and off job, and will take even longer. So if you’re interested in supporting the game development (Or the game, at all), don’t be shy to pitch in. I can use all sorts of help; artists, programmers, modelers, mappers, sound workers, and any other stuff. We could also use a server (Not a complete one, but so we could at least run The Instagib Project’s server on it, as well as dpmaster and a stats interface I found, all of this isn’t that bulky so it shouldn’t hog the server).
We could also use Mac users, if they would like to play The Instagib Project on Mac, then they should download XCode, there’s a free version and you can download it if you’re a member (Signing up is also free), the only downfall is that it’s 900 something MB. Once you have this, if you don’t know how to compile it yourself, I suggest you get a VNC server/client like OSXVNC so I or anyone else could connect to your computer and temporarily ‘control it’ so we could compile the game for you (Don’t worry, you can regain control at a touch of a button, so you don’t feel nervous). You’ll also be in charge of letting us know of any problems you have running it on Mac OS X.
Anyways, hope I can continue with this game and don’t get bored of making it. Having someone else to help out would really really help, I won’t feel as overwhelmed. I just finished making the player able to ‘drop’ or ‘throw’ the flag, imagine, ‘flag passing’, that’d be crazy. Of course I’ll make this configurable by the server. Also, I’ll still have to polish it because currently the player could just throw it and pick it up again and get points for recovering it, so I fixed this by not allowing the player to pick it up again.
Take a look at the downloads page here. The main site is here, it looks more deserted than this site, yet it gets a lot more visitors…some how.
