The World Cup So Far

The FIFA World Cup 2006 has begun. Okay, I’m a little late, it started last Friday June 9nth, 2006, it’s just that I’ve been too caught up with this whole commotion, it’s great. Soccer is truly the best sport ever, no questions asked, it’s not a matter about opinion but about facts. It is the most played sport in the world and the most international, it’s something that brings people together despite their differences and creates a great situation out of anything.

Americans fail to admit that, though. Americans, always wanting to be different, often overlook Soccer and instead go for BasketBall or Football, often putting down Soccer in various ways. This is most likely what led the United States of America to lose to The Republic of Czech. The United States team really doesn’t have any hopes it seems, nobody’s rooting them on back home, no one cares. There are very few people who actually are and they’re not even doing so. They were probably the most boring group of spectators in the stadium that I’ve seen so far. Today they played as if they didn’t even care, I continiously asked myself how they even made it into the World Cup. And why do we call this Soccer? What the heck does Soccer have to do with FutBall? Why was Football used for American Football instead? What do they have to do with their feet other than punt it? This is all messed up, the whole world calls Soccer Futball, it’s only the United States who doesn’t. I’m American, and I don’t mean to racially discriminate the Americans in this area but we must all admit they’re not the brightest group in it. They’ve played better, a lot better, and today for some reason it didn’t seem so. They lost 0 to 3, and not once did I ever see them try to score a point, not once. There would be a few couple players trying, and the rest just walking around, playing as if it were just some other game within their own country. I think that they deserve to lose because nobody cares about Soccer in this country and that’s what you get in return for not caring about it. When have I seen a Soccer game being aired in T.V.? Rarely. On to other things…

Germany obviously beat Costa Rica (Which, I thought was pretty lame that they play them since it seemed to me as if they were confident that they could beat them, on their, the first World Cup game), Sweden tied Trinidad and Tobago from what I’ve heard (I didn’t watch it). Yesterday I was woken up by several calls, that the, the game was about to begin, Mexico vs. Iran. So you turn on the T.V. and the masses of Mexicans (Rofl) are all over the place in Mexico and here in the United States, as well as in Germany, going crazy over cheering for their team, it’s really a nice atmosphere. Futball brings people together.

Anyways, I was going to make this its own huge post about the whole world cup but I figure I’ll just make small ones and add them on in smalll updates. Oh and by the way, Argentina was Great, 6 to 0 on Serbia. At the last minute, they put in some little guy, Messi, who quickly scored two more goals. It truely was a great game and I believe they were playing with a bit of elegance and authority as does Brazil. They were pretty respectful about penalties and what not. The one who did terribly was Mexico, in its Mexico vs. Angola game. It was a tie, but figuratively speaking, they lost because it was the favorite in that game (For example, the favorite in Italy vs. Ghana was Italy of course). They played much, much better in their first game, so well that I was surprised. Mexico has a lot of potential, a whole lot, and they’re really great at passing and doing certain plays (Although they don’t do crazy tricks that often), they just played beautiful last time, but they have problems believing in themselves and it’s not just me trying to be all Disney on you, everyone knows that that’s one of Mexico’s problems. Last game, they did because a couple of their players said they did and because they realized by looking at the support they have, how well they play and how far they can actually go. But this time, they left everyone with a ‘what the heck’ face on. If they were to play as in their first game all the time, I wouldn’t doubt they’d make it a whole lot further.

Up next, Iran vs. Ghana and Italy vs. United States of America.

That guy Ronildino or whatever, from Brazil, the guy with the pony tail, cracks me up and he’s a crazy player, but he’s fugly, and he’s with a super model so I hear, shows what stuff you can get with money. You guys seen those commercials where it’s a guy speaking in German or something and there’s subtitles? Yep, I saw one with this guy in it and it showed him when he was a kid, he was/is crazy.
