EuroDNS

The benefits of having a european domain name. For those of you wondering, what the heck is .be? It’s Belgium’s domain name, why did I get Belgium’s domain name? Because it was free, haha.

For those of you that remember, in the beginning of this year (2006, for those of you in the future), Belgium domains where free for a while to promote them, because they had just come out. I remember because aside from the fact that I took advantage of this, I noticed everyone was all hyped up about free domain names, even people who didn’t know what they were were talking about it. At first I didn’t pay much attention because I had no need for it; my friend was already hosting me (opcodevoid), and I already had a domain name, the only one I needed too (Codeblank, or was it Blanksite?). Anyways, towards the end of the promotion I decided I wanted a personal site, so I signed up for a belgium domain at EuroDNS. At first since it was free and I hadn’t paid for private domain or whatever, people who WHOIS’ed my site could see my info, but I never really cared because I had been used to calls from Ohio and other remote parts of the U.S. from people who had WHOIS’ed CodeBlank.Net and BlankSite.Net (Don’t exist anymore as far as I know), but I still didn’t like the fact. And today when I don’t know how I got up to DNSes and WHOISing, I WHOIS’ed my site, and apparently, there’s nothing there, correct me if I’m wrong. The only bad thing is that the domain is 16 Euros a year haha (As opposed to like 10 American Dollars a year, or even 3), but whatever.

Also I think it’s kind of cool that it’s registered to some guys in Luxembourg or whatever, some French people. You could still see my NameServers, but that doesn’t matter, because we all know they’re from the great guys over at DreamHost, for $120 a year, it’s worth it.
