There’s always a few people that are wondering how to turn off blood in Counter Strike Source, for various reasons. I skinned the blood splats/decals and erased them so now there are no longer blood splats. I didn’t do this intentionally though, I was just messing around with the VTF format and what not, and I figured I’d do something small like that.
Blood helps in letting you know if you shot them or not, but each to their own I guess. In this skin package all blood is removed. At first I had only made it so that wall blood smear decals were removed, something which I didn’t do intentionally but in an effort to get an idea of skinning in CS:S. After a few people showed interest and use of this, I decided to finish it off, something which wasn’t necessarily complicated. I have now removed all traces of blood, or so it seems. If there is any more that you know of please let me know and I’ll fix it.

Install to your account folder inside the steamapps folder.
If you get blood or gibs again, you will have to re-install the patch. Some servers have custom blood or gib content that overrides this patch.

You’re very welcome. Again, I didn’t make this with the intention of that so it might not fully serve the purpose. I was just messing with the VTF format and just blanked out the textures and made them transparent, there are still blood splashes when you shoot people. So like, you shoot someone then a little bit of blood splashes out of their body, not like full blown gory but just a bit and it disappears quickly, but what I think is more obvious or a problem in your case is blood stains left over on the walls. From like, say I shoot someone then the blood splats on the wall behind them, that’s what I ‘fixed’ in this package, it doesn’t show that anymore.
I just realized that I didn’t package any installation instructions in this package, if anyone needs help with that let me know and I’ll post some up, it’s pretty straightforward though, just as you would install any other skin (After all, it is a skin).
I have updated it to remove all blood. I also included a readme.txt file which gives instructions on installing it.
I have a question. Is there any way you can whip something up that will just turn off the blood decals that splat onto the walls? the puff of blood when what is that i want, and not the big blood decals.

Of course, in fact that’s what I had in the beginning, and I agree with you that’s a better thing. It’s now the second download package, the one that only removes the blood decals. Try it out and tell me if it works and if it’s what you wanted.
Beautiful. this is perfect! I had tried to code some stuff onto the autoexec file to do this and it worked… but whenever someone died, the ragdoll didnt work. it looked like the model… “gave up.” it was funny for a while, but i missed bodies flying around when they die by grenade. you’re a genius.
Yeah I had the exact same problem. Then I realized that it could most likely be fixed by overriding the original stuff.

much appreciated friend, my younger brothers have deen dying to play this game, but my parents felt the blood was a liiiitle strong. anyway, is there a way you can describe what you did? I’d like to mess around with Day of Defeat Source and see if I can get the same effect so that they can play that.
I just opened up the VTF files of the blood textures and cleared the alpha channel so that the blood wouldn’t be shown.
This is easier to do by simply looking for a blood mod for the game, then opening all the VTF files in it and doing what I said above. Then just use it as you normally would.
You can open VTF files in Photoshop by installing the VTF Plug-In.
Is there a way to turn off blood sprites in half-life 2? The blood on the ground maybe? I cant figure out how to get rid of it.It just seems to be there, is their a way to make a mod or patch to get rid of the blood decals on the ground?

I actually do have HL2, and I could probably come up with something. You mean HL2 DM? Or just HL2 single player? I can’t promise you anything though, nor give you any date on when I think I’ll have it finished by. It’s not something hard to do, I just have to have the time to do it. If you feel like giving it a go yourself, read the comment right above yours for information on how you could go about doing it yourself, given that there’s some type of blood mod available for HL2 (Look here).

It says it in the readme file that’s in the package dude.
First you have to extract the package so that you see the four folders and the readme file. Now go to My Computer > C: Drive > Program Files > Steam > Steamapps > (yourname) > counter-strike source > cstrike > materials. Now drag all of the four folders you see from the package (decals, effects, particle, sprites) into the materials folder. If it asks you about overwriting or whatever, say yes.

I did that… I take the folder and drag it into the materials folder. Then when I get in game it doesn’t work…
See, that’s where you’re wrong, it’s not the folder, it’s ‘the folders’, all four of them. Look inside that folder you’re talking about there should be four folders in there, drag THOSE into the materials folder.

Does this file work in day of defeat source. this is useful beacause i don’t know why but every time when someone been shot in cs:s or dod:s it makes big red triangle by blood and it stays untill round ends and it makes my game lag as hell! so thank you for this file
Sorry I wouldn’t know as I don’t have Day of Defeat: Source. You could try though, instead install it to the materials folder of DOD:S. So do the same thing you did with CS:S but instead of the counter-strike source folder go into the day of defeat source folder.
I tried to install no blood (removes all blood) into dods materials but it removed only blood on decals but it fixed that blood triangle problem

Thanks for creating this file. I have searched in the css for the file, C: Drive > Program Files > Steam > Steamapps > (yourname) > counter-strike source > cstrike > materials. I cant find the “materials” folder. Is it anywhere else or should I create the folder and then copy the information into it???

Yeah you posted your message three times, no worries though I guess you didn’t see it due to cache problems. Yes, just create and empty ‘materials’ folder where it should be and continue with the installation process. Hope that helps.

Don’t get too excited yet, I don’t know if it works. It should, it’s very similar to the way CS:S did it, so it should work. If not, then just let me know and we’ll figure it out.
This patch, when combined with
violence_hblood 0
violence_hgibs 0
violence_ablood 0
violence_agibs 0
removes enemy decals (blood) from HL2, but doesn’t remove the blood that’s part of the maps (which makes sense).
it should be noted that this change doesnt work on all servers. some servers have a mod on them called “sv_pure” that blocks all custom skins and such (like noblood) from working. the reason that a server might have sv_pure is to block people from using custom skins to cheat. just an fyi.
That’s true, and it’s the case with pretty much any server for most games out there. Pure servers only use stock content or content they provide.

there are also some conole commands that will PARTIALLY get rid of blood. they are:
r_decals 0
mp_decals 0
violence_hblood 0
and maybe:
violence_blood 0 (hblood is for human and ablood is for aliens and im not sure if ablood has any affect in cs:s as there is no aliens)
these commands work most of the time, but WILL NOT work on entities such as: most boxes, crate palets and trees. sooooo, if the victim dies in such a way that be blood splaters on these things (and probably more things that i havent found) the blood will still show up. the plus side is that these commands will work on servers with sv_pure on them.

I have tried this on every game on Steam I have but of course, it doesn’t work. It onley works on TFC.
Well it would only work on games using the Source Engine, such as HL2, Portal, TF2, CS:S, DOD:S, etc.

Go to C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YOURUSERNAME\counter-strike source\cstrike\materials and delete the decals folder.

Hey man, your work is greatly appreciated. I have never liked “unrealistic” blood spatters. Also I have some siblings who ’secretly’ watch me play. So my parents say no to the game. Your way is good but I like to know when I hit someone! So, how/which files do I edit to make it paintball syle(yellow blood spatters)>? I have Photoshop CS.

@xinix: Uhhh….what? In that case, when you install, make sure that ‘No blood decals’ is checked and ‘No blood splats’ is unchecked. If you already installed, uninstall first otherwise the previous installation files will remain.
@CountryRep: You will need the VTF Plugin. I don’t know the names of the files off the top of my head. However, what you can do is create a folder on your desktop or someplace else and install this patch to it, then simply edit the files inside the decals folder. Once you open them up (Again, make sure you have installed the VTF Plugin) then simply paint over the red blood or fill it with yellow or something (Maybe using the color settings like hue and saturation). Once you’re done, save as VTF and then simply overwrite the respective files in your counter strike source folder.
If this sounds too complicated, then wait and I will do it for you. I most likely can’t do it until Friday, earliest would possibly be Thursday. I will give you the files and all.

the little blood from being shot would be fine but its the big blood patches on the walls that will not fly with the parents, can u give me an easy way 2 remove that wall patches and not the puffs?
