This was already on Digg a while ago, but I kept forgetting to post it. This is a pretty sad animation about a kid’s mom who played Animal Crossing a lot because she liked it, she died from a disease and then the kid went in the video game about a year later and found something left behind from his mom… Watch it here

If you didn’t already know, TrackMania Nations is a free version of TrackMania put out by Nadeo. TrackMania is a racing game with a twist. It is characterized by crazy tracks which have loops, booster pads, and half pipes. This might seem boring at first, but since it’s a community oriented game, pretty soon thousands of people are creating thousands of tracks which are awesome. Anyways, Nadeo decided to create a free TrackMania, called TrackMania Nations. And you might think well it’s free so it must suck, but absolutely not. It is an industry quality game sponsored by Nvidia and used for e-Sporting events. In this game, you choose a country and are ranked accordingly within your country, and then each country is ranked. It is awesome from the graphics, UI, menus, physics, and pretty much everything. For a free game, it’s all you can ask for and more in a racing game. Continue Reading
Man that was fun. the UMG servers were down and so I saw this server at the top of the list with a 60 something ping, I was like sweeet, but there were only two people in the server. I remember having seen a post on the official UT3 forums about how it’s important to join servers like these to save the multiplayer aspect of the game. So I joined, not to mention I didn’t mind having a good ping for once (Since most servers, like UMG servers which are the most popular, are in Chicago or some place far). There was this player called DVD_1 that was just owning left and right. He was on the other team of course. A few others joined and it was all of them versus me, so he joined my team, and together (With him doing most of the work of course) we owned like crazy. I mean I’d get the orb he’d get a vehicle and let me grapple to it, take me to a place, pwn the next node, repeat, it was awesome. A little while after and what do you know, almost instantly tons of people started joining that server and pretty soon it got insanely fun, I think it got full within 20 minutes.
Anyways I have never really played with such a great ping so I was hooked. I never knew how fun the game was without lagging. I mean of course lag sucks and we all hate it, but that’s all I was ever used to, I never really experienced the game without the lag. Man was it awesome, it reminded me of what UT3 was, pure awesome. If you could somehow get extract pure awesome out of something, that’s what UT3 is. Unfortunately there weren’t many people playing in the beginning. But recently Epic decided to go with Steam and so now people could buy the game from Steam (I was so pissed because by then I had already bought the physical copy, and I love Steam, how you can simply download the game wherever you are). I think this is mainly what brought us many players. It’s amazing though. It’s not comparable to COD4, and by that I don’t mean that it’s not as good or is better, just not comparable, they’re different types of games. COD4 is awesome and cinematic but realistic, UT3 is cinematic, awesome, and anything goes. I’ll try and post some screenshots some time because it really is awesome, I mean the graphics are intense and I only have it on 2/5 in the graphics settings. Then again this is Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 (Which powers Gears of War and tons of other crazy games) so this is to be expected.
The only thing that annoys me is that I haven’t been able to get voice chat to work. I don’t know if it’s the servers I play in that don’t allow it, but I’ve never seen anyone else use it either. This is annoying, knowing that the game supports voice chat but not being able to. I would sometimes wish I could yell ‘REDEEMER!!!!!!1‘ when I’d see a redeemer finding its way through the chaos towards our power core, or ‘TANK AROUND THE CORNER!‘. UT3 is such a fast action packed game that you don’t really have time to stop and chat, usually only between games.
UT3 is such an awesome game and I hope it will only get better. I hope that Epic releases update 1.3 soon. They announced their famous $1,000,000 Make Something Unreal contest. UT3 is extremely moddable, with UnrealScript for coding, an included map editor, and so much more. The cool thing has always been that Epic gives us their own tools, not some kiddie fisher price toned down version of the tools. I hope to write an Instagib mod soon (Of course with a twist, as there already is one…think guardian shot
).
Anyways, I’m going off raving about this game but it’s just that I haven’t played it in so long and I just played it again, without the lag, it was EPIC, pun intended
Finally, the long awaited patch is finally here. It took forever, and it supposedly was worth it, just take a look at the changes (At the bottom of the following page). It’s 234.33 MB big and it’s definitely a worthwhile download, of course on my new connection it didn’t take too long. You can get the update from this page from Beyond Unreal, a great Unreal Tournament community site. Continue Reading
