Like I mentioned earlier, I decided to check out SDL.Net. Well, I started reading through the tutorials, and although they’re not as thorough as Lazy Foo’s I could do what he did in 1/100th of the time haha. Not only that but now I’m really hooked on it, and I went in search for some Sprites to use in my examples/test ‘games’. It’s really cool. Currently I’m searching for C#/.Net Networking/Socket tutorials/articles (Gotta love slashes), so that my brother and I could test my ‘games’. I have downloaded an OGG Codec Pack so that I can test my OGG sound files. In case you don’t know, OGG is a music/sound format such as MP3, except this one is open source and so you won’t get sued for using it in your programs and you won’t have to pay the MP3 creator/company thing a lot of money just to use it
After asking my friend if he wanted to write a game with me, he suggested (With a gun to my head) that we use O’Caml because people had told him before that it was perfect for this sort of thing. Let me explain; we were thinking about writing a 2D side scrolling (I think) game, we don’t know yet about what, well, at least I don’t, but h said it’ll have rag doll physics. I don’t know how O’Caml is good for this, I’m not denying it I just never really experienced O’Caml, I’ve heard about it, but hadn’t tried it myself. He said it has good SDL bindings [1] [2] [3]. In case you’re wondering, SDL is the Simple Direct Media Layer; think of it as a cross platform DirectX which facilitates media development needs on various platforms. Continue Reading
